Copake Wall Texture

As professional Hudson painters for the last 30 years, we’ve been asked a lot about the different types of wall texture. If you’re wondering too, first realize that many textures which are applied professionally come from the same type of product but vary due to technique. A wall texturing expert will have all kinds of tricks of the trade to use which in different looking finishes.

Here is a little information from our Ronald D. Jones Painting experts about the different wall textures available for your Copake home. There are many beautiful finishes to choose from, much more than we can show you, so have fun learning all you can before making those final decisions!

Smooth Wall Texture – Skim Coating

Smooth wall texture, or skim coating, may be applied to a wall to cover existing texture. It makes the wall smooth. This wall texture technique is great for hiding an imperfect taping job, wall defects, and other problems.

Orange Peel Wall Texture

If you can imagine the outer surface of an orange, you can imagine what orange peel wall texture looks like. The finish is not as fine but isn’t completely course either. This is one of the most popular wall textures, you have probably seen it many times but not known the name of the technique.

Sand Wall Texture

Sand wall texture is a slightly heavy finish that has a finely grained texture. Various decorative results occur based on how heavy the sand content is in the mixture and the technique used to finish it.

Knockdown Wall Texture

Knockdown texture is a beautiful texture that results in a tougher mottled finish. It can be applied in a light, heavy, or medium consistency. It is also referred to as splatter texture. It literally looks much like rain drops and spots on a car windshield. However, the texture can vary depending on techniques used. After it is applied to the wall and starts to dry, it forms little stalactites or points. These points are lightly troweled to leave the mottled finish.

Hawk And Trowel Wall Texture

This refers more to the type of tools used than technique. However, there are techniques used no matter the tools used. A drywall texture expert will either use a hawk and trowel or a pan and knife to apply the wall texture.

Skip Trowel Texture

A professional wall texture artist will use a special curved 18″ knife to apply very thin texture mud. The angle of the knife will cause the mud to skip along the surface as the texture is applied. This results in a very elegant looking wall texture that is very popular in high-end homes.
